It’s official, the proposed “Boba Fett” movie is dead.
Emmy-winning Sirius XM journalist Erick Weber has posted a tweet last night saying Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy confirmed to him personally that: “[the] Boba Fett movie is 100% dead” and all development on the project has been re-focused on the currently in production “The Mandalorian” TV series from executive producer Jon Favreau.
“Chronicle” director Josh Trank was linked as a potential director years ago, while “Logan” director James Mangold was also mentioned at one point. However with the failure of “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” Disney is retooling its ‘anthology’ film approach and the Fett project is now a confirmed victim.
The update from Kennedy comes as The Blast reported yesterday that a police investigation has been launched into a theft of sensitive equipment on the Manhattan Beach studio set.
“The Mandalorian,” the first live-action “Star Wars” series, will be coming exclusively to Disney’s streamings service sometime next year and follows the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic. It’s slated to debut exclusively on Disney’s upcoming direct to consumer streaming service launching late 2019.
